The Grant School
The historical Grant School sits nestled among the fir trees of the Pickering neighborhood, near Shelton, Washington. The schoolhouse overlooks Pickering Passage in the South Puget Sound.
The Grant School operated as a one-room schoolhouse from 1914 to 1942, when it closed due to low enrollment. Since then, the school building and its grounds have become a community meeting place.
The Pickering Community Club
The Pickering Community Club continues to carry out its original mission to preserve and maintain the 1914 historical Grant School building and grounds. Additional club goals are:
To restore the school building to reflect the early 20th century.
To create a living classroom museum available to children for educational school field trips.
To ensure the continued use of the school and property as a community meeting place and educational center.
To welcome new members.
To provide financial support of an educational/scholastic nature to the local community.

Membership dues.
Fundraising events, including the plant and bake sales, auctions and outdoor summer music concerts, helped pay for improvements such as the kitchen remodel, a new bathroom, return of the original school bell to the rooftop, new roof, drainage and an energy-efficient ductless heating system.
Grants have provided funding for large repairs and upkeep, insulation, yard and grounds landscaping, floor refinishing, exterior painting, electrical updates, new roof, and more.
Venue rentals for private events such as family reunions, memorial services, small weddings, etc.
Donations.
Members contribute hundreds of volunteer hours to accomplish club goals.
